Police Officer Accused of Killing K-9 Partner
Officer On Trial For Killing His Own Police Dog
http://cbs4.com/local/Miami.Dade.Police.2.405725.html
MIAMI (CBS4) ― A Miami-Dade Police officer is scheduled to go on trial Monday accused of killing his own K-9 partner.
Sgt. Allen Cockfield faces charges stemming from a June 7th incident during a K-9 training exercise in which he allegedly kicked his Belgian Malinois police dog, "Duke", numerous times, and then shook the animal.
Cockfield reportedly beat the dog into unconsciousness; the animal later died.
A necropsy revealed the dog died of a medical complication as a result of being kicked.
If Cockfield is convicted, the animal rights organization PETA has asked prosecutors to ban Cockfield from any personal or professional contact with animals, to seize any animals currently in his custody and to require him to undergo thorough psychological evaluations followed by mandatory counseling.
Cockfield was relieved of duty without pay after being charged with animal cruelty and killing a police dog which is a third degree felony.
Doug Hartman, the officer's attorney, called the charges a travesty.
"I've never seen a case like this. He is one of the best dog handlers in the department,'' Hartman told our news partners at the Miami Herald back in June.
Hartman said that his client is an animal lover and that the dog was uncontrollable, causing Cockfield to take corrective action. (© MMVII, CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.)

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I would like to take this time to thank this ass nut for blackening our eye a little more.
A side note for Law Enforcement. If you don't have what it takes to help keep the badge shining bright then by all means please go to work doing something else. My dad died a hero's death wearing this uniform and I don't need some punk that can't control his temper making this profession, that I dearly love look bad.The opinions of my posts are the sole responsibilty of my employer due to the fact that they have totally and completely warped my mind.

I think I'll wait to hear more of the story.

Probably means he was cleared. The press would never print the good but will flood us with bad. I hope it wasn't true.

No wonder he is so angry, if my name was Cockfield, I would be too.

According to this, it was postponed till Dec. 17th. It's got a few more details, but I don't know how accurate they are.
Another site, perhaps more reputable. http://www.local10.com/news/14188550/detail.htmlLast edited by Ducky; 12-12-07 at 11:17 AM. Reason: added stuff
