Milwaukee police officer who lied to federal investigators to protect his illegal immigrant LEO brother, will be allowed to keep his job
MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee police officer who lied to protect his brother will get his job back.
The Fire and Police Commission ruled that Alex Ayala would serve a 10-day suspension for lying to federal investigators.
Ayala's brother, Oscar Ayala Cornejo, was in the country illegally and was posing as their dead cousin.
Alex Ayala went along with the lie and said his brother was living in Mexico.
But Oscar Ayala Cornejo was living in Milwaukee working as a police officer.
"I made a mistake and apologize for it," Alex Ayala said.
Oscar Ayala Cornejo was found guilty of being in the country illegally and will be deported.

They should fire him. If he lied about that, what else will he lie about?

I can understand covering for you brother and being an illegal immigrant and all that goes with it, but with the brother being a cop and all and living a hopefully a upstanding life, there might have been other ways to deal with this problem. With lying about this, it brings into question his and brothers credibility. Now they (meaning the state and defense) will pull any and all cases that these 2 have done and file appeals. What a bloody mess.

His credibility is nada, zip, kapoot, lost in the sewer! There is still a rumor that the feds may prosecute him for lying and then he would definitely lose his job!

He'll never make it on the stand in any trial or criminal case he is involved in. Every competent criminal defense lawyer will crawl all over this event and use it against him.

I don't see him as any better then his brother...after all, isn't that what his brother did, lie? Maybe on a grander scale, but yet...to me...seems all the same

He lied and helped his brother commit fraud on the city by allowing him to get a paycheck while breaking the law. He needs to go. Maybe the feds will slap a perjury charge on him, which would cure this problem pretty quickly.

He's lucky that he is just being deported, and as far as the brother.... Wow I can't see how they can keep him working after this!

Anyone else would have been fired for lying to the feds.

Hell... I can't think of the case now (is it Brady-Jenks?), but, as others have said, he's now useless as a cop. He's lied. My chief has made it crystal clear; you may or may not get fired for something you do, but you WILL be fired if you lie about it.
This guy can't take the stand to testify the sky is blue without having his integrity questioned.

Agreed. His credibility is shot! Sad that he had to lie about who the brother was in the first place....let alone support him being a police officer under false pretenses.

I dont agree. I am glad that he got to keep his job. I think they should give him a raise and a new house, they should also let him move the rest of his family in and give them all jobs with the police department. who the hell am i kidding they should fire his ass and send him to another country without a passport or any ID except an international drivers license and a box of chiclets.
