2 Minneapolis police shot, not injured
Two police officers were shot while serving a search warrant early this morning, but were unhurt because they were wearing bullet-proof vests and helmets, the Minneapolis Police Department said this morning.Members of the department's SWAT team were serving a search warrant at the 1300 block of Logan Avenue North just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. The search was part of an ongoing investigation by the Minneapolis Police Violent Offender Task Force.
Police had searched the first floor of the house, and then were confronted by a man on the second floor who opened fire after the officers identified themselves. The man fired several rounds, hitting two of the officers. Several officers returned fire, but no one in the house was hurt. The man was then taken into custody and released . The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, as is standard procedure.

They maybe felt "ok" at the time cuz of adrenaline...

Has anyone here been shot while wearing their vest?
I would imagine it hurts like a bastard.

Sounds like the police had the wrong house. Heres a newer article.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Police believe they received some bad information and executed a search warrant on the wrong house early Sunday when two officers were shot at and hit, but were protected by bulletproof vests and helmets, a police spokesman said.
"It was some bad information that was received on the front end and it's unfortunate because we have officers that were hit by gunfire and this truly, truly could have been a much worse situation," said Sgt. Jesse Garcia.
A SWAT team entered the home on the city's north side shortly after midnight as part of an ongoing investigation by the Minneapolis Police Violent Offender Task Force, the police department said in a news release.
Family members living in the house said they were upstairs when they heard someone bust through their back door. They said Vang Khang grabbed his hunting gun to protect himself, his wife and his six children.
"He thought they were gang members and he was scared," said Vang's brother, Dao Khang. Dao Khang said Vang fired a warning shot, and then two more shots through his closed bedroom door. The bullets hit two officers, but they weren't injured.
Several officers returned fire but no one in the house was injured, the department said. The man suspected of firing the shots was taken into custody, police said. He was later released.
The officers, who weren't identified, were placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, which is standard procedure. Police hadn't determined whether charges would be filed against the shooter.
Vang's family said he was trying to scare the intruders away and didn't know they were police officers executing a search warrant.
The officers said they identified themselves as police. Garcia said a language barrier may have created the misunderstanding.
Vang's family said he and his children, who range in age from three to fifteen, are still shaken.
"All these gunshots in the house. They don't know what's going on. Flying bullets in the house and they just cried," Dao Khang said. The statements and opinions made here are of Copper51's only. They do not reflect my department or the city I work for.
So lay off, I'm offduty and spouting off.

I think if you shoot, you should id your target not just shoot into a door. It could have been a fire fighter that doesn't were a vest!

12-17-07, 03:14 AM #12Why would any charges be brought against the guy? There is not a person on this board that wouldn't have done the same thing.( Well maybe not have shot through a door.)Police hadn't determined whether charges would be filed against the shooter.
A better question would be what charges are going to be brought against the person that gave the Cops the wrong address?
I'm glad the Officers were not hurt. To many LOD deaths this year.dlefdal said:

Let's keep in mind that the shooter's brother said the bit about him shooting through the door. I'm not taking that as fact yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

"Bad information" caused police to raid wrong house
A north Minneapolis family was upstairs in their home early Sunday when they heard someone bust through their back door.
Vang Khang's family said Vang grabbed his hunting gun to protect himself, his wife, and his six children.
"He thought they were gang members and he was scared," Vang's brother, Dao Khang said.
Dao Khang said Vang fired a warning shot, and then two more shots through his bedroom door, which was closed.
Vang was trying to scare the intruders away, his family said. Vang didn't know that they were members of the Minneapolis Police Department's SWAT team, which was executing a search warrant inside his home in the 1300 block of Logan Avenue North.
Vang hit two of the officers. Neither was injured. Both were wearing bullet proof vests and helmets.
The officers returned fire and have been placed on administrative leave, which police say is standard procedure.
Vang was arrested and released hours later.
Police say they executed a few search warrants over the weekend based on some information they received as part of a long-term investigation. Police confiscated weapons at some of the other homes. But after entering Khang's home, investigators learned it was not part of the investigation."It was some bad information that was received on the front end that kind-of trickled all the way through," Sgt. Jess Garcia said. "It's unfortunate because we have officers that were hit by gunfire and this truly, truly could have been a much worse situation."
Vang's family said he and his children, who range in age from three to fifteen, are still shaken.
"All these gunshots in the house. They don't know what's going on. Flying bullets in the house and they just cried," Dao Khang said.
Police say they are investigating whether to charge Vang Khang for shooting the officers.Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.
