Church Of Satan Helps Authorities Arrest Army Recruit

Ohio Man Undergoes Mental Evaluation

BAZETTA, Ohio -- An Ohio Army recruit is undergoing a mental evaluation after authorities said he e-mailed the Church of Satan about plans to kill his grandparents.

Andrew Culver, 18, enrolled early in the U.S. Army and has already completed some training.

Police said he was arrested in connection with an e-mail threat sent to the high priest of the Church of Satan in New York City.

"My grandfather was a police lieutenant, he has an entire arsenal of weapons," the e-mail said. "I will kill both my grandparents and take all the weapons, all the money and their car. Please employ me as an unholy warrior ... I will kill at his command."

The church's high priest forwarded the e-mail to the authorities.
After tracing the e-mail to Culver's home computer, the FBI referred the case to local police.

"Our investigation did reveal also, and this was a concern, that there was a recent disagreement at the house," said Chief Gary Mink of the police department in Bazetta, Ohio. "Not a reported police incident, but a disagreement. ... He had left the residence for a day or so and had only come back the proceeding day, the day that this (the e-mail) went out."

Culver's grandfather said he has no fear of his grandson, but local authorities were not willing to take any chances.
The Army is also reviewing Culver's status, authorities said.
