Woman Sues County for Distributing Nude Photos She Sent to Husband in Jail

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A woman whose husband was once incarcerated at the Mesa County jail has filed a claim of at least $100,000 against the county, saying jailers distributed nude photos she'd sent him.
Jessica Duran filed the claim Tuesday through Denver attorney Lonn Heymann. Such a claim is required before the plaintiff could sue.
Duran says her privacy and civil rights were violated, and that she has suffered emotional distress and humiliation.
County officials say it's standard procedure to open inmates' mail to prevent contraband from getting into jail.
Duran says jailers distributed the photos without her knowledge or permission, or that of her husband.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey says any lawsuit against the county in this case would be meritless.

If she didn't have a copyright on them, and no privacy notice in the email, I onder if this could go anwhere in court? - SHE sent them to a county computer, I assume, so the email is the county's property, isn't it?

As for whether the deputies should be fired, yeah maybe, or just have them chewed out.... It put the County in an unfavoubable news report

I'm pretty sure it was snail mail, and they may even have rules about what can be sent.

They do. Can't even send books with sexual content, so yeah, those photos should have gone into the inmate's property and scheduled for pickup by the family.

If 'distributed' means "Hey Bob, look what Moron's wife sent." followed by chunking them into dude's property (highly likely) then she needs to STFU and get on with life. Onus will be on her to prove that it was more.
