Police question 13 & 14 year olds over sending nude picture texts to each other....facing possible criminal charges
FARMINGTON - Police are questioning a group of Davis County teenagers accused of trading nude pictures over cell phones.
Farmington Police Lt. Shane Whitaker says approximately six Farmington Junior High School students took pictures of themselves and then shared the naked images with others.
A parent of one of the kids found the pictures on their child's cell phone and called police.
Detectives say the boys and girls, ages 13 and 14, said they took the pictures as a joke, but did not understand that is is potentially a crime.
Police plan to turn the investigation over to the Davis County attorney to decide if charges will be filed.
Do you think criminal charges in this circumstance is appropriate?

In a word, no. In more words, the parents need to start being parents and handle what their children are doing without asking us to raise the children for them.

Yes, they could, LOL
And no, this is a parenting issue, not a police issue. I wish there was a correlation between stupidity and infertility ... it would seriously solve a lot of the world's problems in a generation or two.
WHY 13 and 14 yr old kids have cell phones is even beyond me."I have an open door policy on tickets ... if I have to open my door, you are getting a ticket. If I turn on those lights, somebody has to pay the electric bill."

Hell no.
The kids today are more mature than 20 years ago they know what they are doing for the most part. There was no criminal intent just fun. I do agree that they should not have camera phones and cells should only be used for calling mom and dad or for help.
I could say lets examine the crime "scene" but some may think that is perverted, so I won't.

I think this should be a wake up call to parents, kids get too many "things" today. If they get a cellphone it should be restricted. But should they be prosecuted for this, NO. Something like this could destroy their lives. I think this is a parental issue not a state involved issue.
My dad, I miss him every day.

Posting sexually explicit pictures could make them 290 registrants causing them to have to register as a Sex offender the rest of their lives just like child molesters. They are too young for that rap.

Sorry, I have to disagree.....child porn is child porn no matter how you dress it up. If they were over 18, so what? Other than sending nudies over the airwaves, which is also a crime, no harm done. 13 & 14 falls into a whole different category.

Just so that I am clear in understanding what your saying. Lets say I work for you chief this call comes out. I believe as an officer that this is a parenting issue and nothing criminal has taken place. You want me to make a case out of this even though I feel its not a case that is going to do any good or go anywhere?

for the sake of argument so this thread sticks around

I disagree 100%. kids are kids, and do what kids do when they are curious. this is absolutely a parenting issue, NOT a police issue, imo.
the day when 13 and 14 year old kids are charged in a case like this, or face any repurcussions other than what their parents decide, will be a sad day for America

I say no also, I even have a problem with this being considered child pornography. They took the pictures of themselves (not each other) and voluntarily sent them to each other (of the same age). There is no adults involved in this in any way, shape, or form (for the "crime"). So explain to me how this should be considered as a crime.
