Navy Searches For Missing Bomb In San Diego Waters

SAN DIEGO -- A demolition charge disappeared Thursday during a training exercise 300 yards off the coast, the U.S. Navy said.
The belt-shaped explosive charge failed to detonate during a Navy exercise, the Navy said. According to the U.S. Third Fleet, the time-delayed charge disappeared just off the Silver Strand, south of Coronado, near the Hotel del Coronado.
Search teams were unable to locate the device.

Lifeguards said they have stepped up patrols in the area.
The Navy said anyone who finds an unusual obect on the Silver Strand should leave it alone and call police.
