26 year police veteran spends his last day on the job writing tickets for 14 of his agencies patrol cars that have expired inspection stickers
MIDDLETOWN, N.J. - A Middletown police officer spent his last day on the job writing tickets for 14 patrol cars that had expired inspection stickers.
Cpl. Frank Holden says he was just doing his job.
The 26-year veteran tells the Asbury Park Press he retired at the end of the year because Police Chief Robert Oches is hurting morale.
Holden says he spoke to the chief about the vehicles that needed to be inspected several months ago.
The township is investigating whether the tickets are valid because some of the vehicles were out of service.
Driving a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker may result in fines between $100 and $200.

I find it funny.
And I would like to point out that yes, the police are exempt from certain traffic laws....but expired inspection stickers?? The police aren't expected to keep those up to date, just like everyone else? By not keeping those inspection stickers up to date, they're being hypocritical, and breaking the law for, presumeably no reason. I say presumeably (sp?) because...maybe there is one, I don't know the whole story.
Money for the stickers went towards the budget for training, equipment, wages, etc?? I don't know.
But if Chief was just lazy and never got it done....he's got it coming I guess.

No excuse for them being several months expired. I could understand a few days or weeks, especially if things have been unusually busy, or there was another issue.
And, hell, on your last night, with a chief who apparently has his head up his ass... why not make it clear!Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

I am sure there is more to it, but ticketing your own department is dumb.

Sounds like a going-away jab to me

He could have probably come up with something a lot more serious if it were more than a prank - But yeah he probably deserved it.

I don't think he's ticketing the vehicles while driving, but rather just the vehicles and sticking the bill to the cty.
I think it's fucking hilarious."If anything worthwhile comes of this tragedy, it should be the realization by every citizen that often the only thing that stands between them and losing everything they hold dear... is the man wearing a badge." -- Ronald Reagan, in the wake of the deaths of 4 CHP troopers in the Newhall Incident, 1970

Police must set a good example for citizens. There's no excuse as to why that many police vehicles had expired tags. That seems like some poor administration right there to me.

Its gotta be just a jab because an inspection violation is a moving vio. and if the cars were not moving then no violation.
I do like him trying to make a point but there is ALOT more to the story.
Just to write a bunch of tickets and put them in the windshield or wherever just doesn't make sense, but he is retiring and the Chief can NOT hold up his retirement checks.
or can he
