The man convicted of stabbing his two-year-old stepdaughter in the head in the middle of rush hour traffic will spend what could amount to the rest of his life behind bars. A judge sentenced Jimmie Dixon Tuesday. Dixon will serve 70 years without the benefit of probation or parole. District Court Judge Tony Marabella actually handed out 110 years of hard labor, but 40 of them will run side-by-side. After the sentencing, Dixon's mother had to be carried out of the courthouse. In a 9NEWS Exclusive, we'll show you part of the evidence in the case (Video Only). Warning: Some of the images could be disturbing.
A jury convicted Jimmie Dixon of attempted murder last August. Tuesday was pay day for Dixon. Judge Tony Marabella slapped him with 70 years of hard labor. Using evidence like an X-ray of two-year-old Jamia before the knife was surgically removed helped sink any chance Dixon had of getting off. Dixon's ex-wife and victim, Samantha Dixon, says she still fears him. "I feel like if he was to get out today or tomorrow, because of the time that he's already been in for, he would finish what he started to me and Jamia."
Defense attorney Scott Collier escorted Dixon's family into the sentencing. He did not make himself available after the sentencing, but prosecutors agreed with the judge's 70-year sentence. "He will spend the rest of his life in prison and we're very pleased with that because he richly deserves that sentence," says lead prosecutor Lori Nunn. "Samantha Dixon can put this behind her. She has three children that she has to raise by herself, one of which is severely impaired both mentally and physically," Nunn adds.
Doctors who removed the knife from Jamia's brain testified during the trial. During the sentencing, Samantha took the stand and asked for the maximum for her ex-husband. Little Jamia was also in the courtroom. Her mother called out to her and she held her hands out trying to find her mother. She's still blind from the incident. It was a touching moment in the courtroom. "It was hard, but I had to do it because he said he apologized. But I wanted to let him know I forgive him but I have not forgotten about it and it's only because of the man upstairs," Samantha says.
District Court Judge Tony Marabellla said in his 30 years in law, he has never seen a more deliberate act of cruelty towards a victim.

It's a shame situations have to get this bad and receive such media attention before justice is served.Do not war for peace. If you must war, war for justice. For without justice there is no peace. -me

Even if final justice isn't dished to him behind bars, we can only hope that each and every single day is a living hell, where he knows no joy and no hope.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\
