HAMMOND — A dog named Castor won a battle with an armed fugitive, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
State Police said the incident began when a trooper stopped a car Sunday and the driver fled on foot. The trooper reported he chased the driver into a wooded area.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene with Castor, who led authorities into the woods to a garbage pile where Kendrick Marshall, 25, was hiding under a piece of tin, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Castor subsequently grabbed Marshall by the arm causing him to drop a knife, the release says.
Deputies said they took Marshall, who lives a 2410 Center Ave. in Hammond, into custody, and he was treated at Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence for his injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office reported booking Marshall with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. State Police reported that they booked Marshall with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation of a vehicle, improper lane use and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
