CHIEF APPLAUDS KNIFE-SCAN PLAN
The chairman of Notts Police Authority has welcomed Government plans to issue police with portable metal detectors and knife-search 'wands' - two-and-a-half years after calling for their greater use.
Coun John Clarke spoke after Home Office Minister and Gedling MP Vernon Coaker announced plans for police in England and Wales to get access to 100 new portable metal detectors, or knife arches, and 400 search wands to scan people for knives.
The move is part of the Government's Action Plan for Tackling Violent Crime.
Mr Clarke said: "This is something I called for in October 2005 and it is a victory for everyone that has been affected by knife crime and lives in fear of it."
Nottingham Evening Post
He might have failed to notice that some of his officers have had metal detector wands since 2004. Good to see the gaffers are up to speed on what happens on the street."all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke.

First they take your guns, Now they want your knives and broadswords, Look out next they will take away your hand grenades and WMD.
