VALLEY CENTER Three men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a man who was found in the trunk of a car, and the victim was arrested on suspicion of car theft, authorities said.
San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. J.T. Rothlein said deputies went to a residence on St. Andrews Lane in Valley Center shortly after 4 p.m. Friday at the request of sheriff's deputies in Riverside County.

Riverside deputies were investigating a report that three men in their early 20s assaulted a man in Lake Elsinore, handcuffed him and forced him into the trunk of a silver Honda Civic. Two men drove off in the car, and one man drove off in a black Honda Civic, according to a witness who reported the license plate of the silver car.

The car's registration listed the St. Andrews Lane residence, which was then staked out by San Diego deputies.

Shortly before 5 p.m., both cars arrived at the Valley Center residence and three men were confronted by deputies. A man in the trunk of the silver Civic was released.

It was discovered that the black Civic was reported stolen in Valley Center on March 13. The man who was kidnapped was arrested on suspicion of car theft and on an outstanding felony warrant, Rothlein said.

Riverside sheriff's deputies came to Valley Center to arrest the kidnapping suspects.
