Detroit Customs seizes 72,900 tabs of X and 11lbs of meth

DETROIT, Mich. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers announced Thursday that they had seized more than $35,000 (who ever came up of this figure is on crack it is worth a hell of a lot more) of Ecstasy and methamphtamine from a vehicle entering the states at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit.The drugs were hidden in a spare tire on a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Canadian citizen from Whitby, Ontario, who was attempting to enter the states throught the NEXUS lane early Wednesday afternoon.Officers inspecting the vehicle said they noticed how clean the spare tire was in comparison to the rest of the vehicle’s undercarriage. After a canine inspection team produced a positive reaction to the tire, officers confiscated the tire.Officers removed 14 bags of pills and 5 bags of an off-white, pasty substance from the tire, according to U.S. Customs. Field-testing of the pills was positive for Ecstasy, and the pasty substance tested positive for methamphetamine.A total of 23.9 kilos (52 lbs), or approximately 72,900 Ecstasy pills, with a street value of approximately $36,450 (who ever came up of this figure is on crack it is worth a hell of a lot more) , and 5 kilos (11 lbs) of methamphetamine were recovered.The driver, vehicle and drugs were all turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement."This was a participant in one of our trusted-traveler programs, and he betrayed the trust that was being given to him," said Port Director Roderick Blanchard in a news release.NEXUS is a joint program between the U.S. and Canada, designed to expedite border clearance for low-risk, pre-approved travelers.Applicants voluntarily undergo a background check, in-person interview and fingerprinting, and pay a $50
