Gun Beats Bomb in Bank Robbery

(WXYZ) -- An attempted bank robbery in Canton played out like a scene from a movie Monday when a man who police say claimed to have a bomb was stopped by a customer armed with a pistol.
The drama started just after the Comerica bank on Michigan Ave. opened around 9 a.m. Police say 54-year-old man Joseph Webster from Washtenaw County walked up to a teller and handed her a note claiming he had a bomb strapped to his body.
The fast-thinking teller hit the silent alarm while filling a bag with $1 bills -- until, police say, Webster demanded "bands of 50s and 100s." Another teller saw the situation unfolding and alerted Nabil Fawzi, 39, a long-time customer.
Fawzi, who spent six years in the Lebanese army, took matters into his own hands.
He tells WXYZ.com he pulled out a .9 mm handgun (for which he had a CCW permit), racked a bullet in the chamber, pointed it at Webster and announced, "You are not robbing this bank!"
The startled Webster countered with, "but, I have a bomb" -- but Fawzi wasn't impressed. "I don't care. You are not robbing this bank!" was the reply from the other side of the gun. He then forced the Webster into a chair and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
Police tell WXYZ.com there were no injuries, no issues with Fawzi's CCW permit, and no bomb found at the scene.
Webster was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and charged with one count of bank robbery, one count of armed robbery, and a habitual third offense. He faces 25 years to life in prison.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Not in Michigan. Aside from schools, sterile areas of airports/courthouses, and bars (51% rule), there aren't many places the general populace can't carry.
The only thing I see wrong with this is that the guy wasn't carrying chambered
Interesting also...I was working in Canton a couple weeks ago. hmph.--

Concealed carry is allowed everywhere in Washington with the exception of jails, limited access portions of courtrooms, limited access areas of police facilities, primary schools, bars, and anyplace off limits federally.
Open carry is also permitted without a license.
Banks or any other private properties can prohibit it, but all they can do is ask you to leave.I'm your huckleberry...

Anyone care to lay down odds that the Supreme Court ruling next week will ruin Sarah Brady's day?
I look at them to say that all gun regulations (up to prohibitions against dangerous unsafe behavior) means "infringed". The 2nd Amendment bans infringement". Nuff said. The rest of the 2nd Amendment is just a list of rationales for the ban on infringement, not conditions for non-infrirngment..
One good thing about concealed gun off-limit areas... It requires at least Reasonable Suspicion to trigger a search. Anyone concealing it sufficiently and not acting strange probably won't be searched unless there's a metal detector at the door. I never have worried too much about stupid crap like driving through the post office parking lot to drop off a letter or having a picnic at the lake on Corps property.

I'm really expecting to see a 5 to 4 decision in favor of individual rights but I'm just not sure how far they'll push it. I'm actually expecting kind of a watered down ruling.

With Kennedy's "centrist" positions (slightly conservative leaning but influenced by European courts) I think you are too optimistic. I hope you're right, that's the way it should be. But I think they are going to chicken out of addressing the full scope of the 2nd and go with something more narrowly focused to DC's ban. Kennedy isn't going to jump on the NRA bandwagon. I hope I'm wrong though.

This is why I will always support concealed carry laws. Bad guys will always carry regardless. We might as well let the good guys take a firearm class, buy a permit, and carry too. It just might even up the odds a little bit.
I'm not ruining your life, you are, and I'm just going to write a short story about it.
