An excellent article with good points about using holsters. I feel like off duty my IWB kydex holster with no retention is fine. But any on duty plain clothes assignment I like having some kind of retention. If you have to jump fences or wrestle with someone you really need to be able to keep your gun safe and secure. The author's example is an excellent case in point where on duty wear needs some retention for safety.

Great article! In Hawaii, we have great weather year round (I know it sucks!) It is usually sunny in the 80s and rains a couple of times a month. I'm usually wearing anything from surf shorts, regular shorts, jeans to 5.11s. I use the BlackHawk CQC Serpa paddle back holster with level 2 retention. It is easy to put on and easy to take off, the level 2 retention is a plus and the index finger release mechanism is a breeze. http://www.blackhawk.com/product1.asp?P=4100&C=C1066
