Officer involved shooting in my area

This happened in the town right next to us. One of the deputies involved used to work with my dept. He had a round pass through his shirt collar but did not hit him!

Armed robbery suspect killed by police

BONNER COUNTY, Idaho - Idaho State Police say an armed robbery suspect was shot and killed by police Monday, after a vehicle pursuit and shooting near Colburn Culver Road near Sandpoint.
Police say the man tried to rob the State Liquor Store in the Bonner Mall at knife-point. He then fled the store leading to a police chase.
During the chase the suspect tried to ram his car into police vehicles. The Bonner County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was stopped about one mile off Highway 95 on Colburn Culver Road.
That's when multiple police officers opened fire killing the suspect.
The shooting is under investigation.

I am fairly certain he was shot after advancing towards the officers with the knife or he was using his 3000 pound vehicle as his weapon of choice. Either way he loses.

Yeah, he loses, but public perception can go a long way with how future stops go. For some reason, the public thinks that the only reason to shoot someone is if they have a gun. They don't see how a nutbag with a knife or a vehicle could be deadly, they always want some other way of stopping the scum-turned-saint - turned the very second the police were involved in any way with his demise.

Or maybe I'm just cynical.

Society wants us to control and arrest violent individuals with a feather duster. They don't understand the dynamics of force and they don't understand action vs reaction. They don't want to understand and that is why everyone loves Fireman. The Police are a necessary evil. Most people have no use for a cop until the wolf comes growling at the door.
