Off-duty Denver Police Officer in Serious Condition After Traffic Crash

DENVER - Police say an off-duty Denver Police officer was taken to a hospital with internal injuries after being involved in an accident with Metro Taxi cab.
It happened Sunday night at the intersection of Race Street and 17th Avenue.
Police say the cab driver was heading north on Race Street when he ran a stop sign.
The officer, heading east on 17th Avenue, laid down his bike and collided with the back of the cab.
Police say the cab driver hit another car and then hit a tree.
Witnesses think the cab driver was trying to flee the scene; but police have not confirmed that assumption.
The cab driver was taken into custody. Police say he'll likely be charged with careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.
The officer is listed in serious condition.
