8 Shot, 6 Dead In Shooting Rampage

SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. -- A total of eight people have been shot and six of them have died including a Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy during a shooting rampage. The shooting spree has seven different crime scenes, say Mount Vernon police and the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff's deputy was responding to a disturbance call at a Shell gas station in Alger. When he responded he was shot in the head and died, Leary said.
A clerk at the gas station told KIRO 7 that she was in the cooler when she heard commotion outside the station. The clerk said a man was firing his gun and may have hit a customer. When the sheriff’s deputy responded, the suspect fatally shot the deputy, Leary said.
The suspect then got into his truck and led police on a high-speed pursuit southbound on Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Leary said.
During the pursuit, a motorist on I-5 also died and a WSP trooper was shot in the arm, Leary said. The trooper was taken to Sedro-Woolley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The pursuit ended when the suspect drove to Mount Vernon and the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and surrendered, Leary said. A bullet hole was found in the passenger side window of the suspect's truck, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.
Chopper 7 over the incident showed police and K-9 units combing the area near the motorist fatality for evidence. Police blocked off all southbound traffic on I-5 near the Bow Hill area while police investigated.
The pursuit reached speeds of 90 miles per hour.

It's kind of a helpless feeling when you recognize some names. All there was to do about it was go out to the flagpole this AM and lower the flag to half mast.

Second time in 2 weeks.
