Very Sad Story
Off-Duty Cop Dead, Children Injured In Shooting
Police, SWAT Teams Respond Monday Morning
POSTED: 11:29 am CDT September 15, 2008
UPDATED: 2:15 pm CDT September 15, 2008
CHICAGO -- Two young children were shot and critically injured, and their father, an off-duty Chicago police officer, was killed Monday morning after a barricade situation on the Southwest Side.
Chicago police didn't identify the officer involved in Monday's shootings, saying only that he was 31 years old and had been on the force for four years.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said officers responded to a "shots fired" call at the home in the 2700 block of Pope John Paul Way (Washtenaw Avenue and 43rd Street) on the city's Southwest Side at 10:45 a.m.
When they arrived, they were told children were inside so they rushed in. They found the dead officer and the critically injured children.
The 8-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police said the incident appears related to a domestic dispute involving the children's mother, from whom the officer is currently separated.
She was not in the home at the time of the shooting, police said, but is now at the hospital with the children.
I was in court not far where this happened real sad. I didn't know him but we worked in the same district on different watches. Prayers go out to his family to his children for this senseless act." The hardest thing about disarming an armed suspect is not slipping on your own shit "

Thoughts and prayers sent.
I'm confused...was this a suicide? It says the childrens' mother was not at home at the time of the shooting.I'm not ruining your life, you are, and I'm just going to write a short story about it.

Oh wow, it is sad when families are ripped apart like that! I can't imagine the depths of depression or desperation that would make a father (or any parent) shoot his own children. I mean no disrespect to him or his family, but why hurt babies? If you are going to kill yourself, then just do it and don't take children with you!
My prayers are with the surviving family. It's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you aren't!

That really sucks. Why do they always include the kids in their problem?

In the war over the human soul, sometimes darkness prevails.
Tragic.
May there be peace in the wake of such a horrific incident.

Boy shot in cop suicide dies
September 23, 2008 at 6:19 PM |
The 9-year-old son of a Chicago police officer who last week shot his two children before committing suicide has died.
According to the Cook County medical examiner's office, Anthony Marchan died at about 10 a.m. today at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since the Sept. 15 incident.
That morning Anthony's father, Dannie Marchan, 29 and a four-year police veteran, killed his daughter Alizay, 7, then turned the gun on himself.
Reached this evening, Marchan's brother, Javier, said Anthony underwent surgery soon after the shooting, but never regained consciousness.
Dannie Marchan, who was found in the same room as his children, did not leave a note, relatives said. He died of a gunshot wound in the head and his daughter died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police described the shooting as a "domestic-related" incident.
Prayers go out to the family, and to the two little angels who are now in heaven." The hardest thing about disarming an armed suspect is not slipping on your own shit "

Bird1 thanks for the update. How tragic, prayers and thoughts to the Mom, I hope she can find some peace some how, but unfortunately she will have a long struggle ahead. People don't realize how their actions will affect those left behind, and to take the lives of the innocent makes this story so much worse.
My dad, I miss him every day.
