Kat Deluna National Anthem Booed at Texas Stadium
Kat Deluna National Anthem Booed at Texas Stadium

As American Idol's Randy Jackson might say, it was a "pitchy" performance.
Twenty-year-old singing sensation Kat Deluna left spectators booing at Texas Stadium Monday night when she sang the National Anthem before the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles matchup.
The singer, who at times sounded like a Mariah Carey-wannabe, threw in several extra notes into the performance and used violent body gesticulations to match her powerful voice.
When she ended the song, an overwhelming "boo" came from the crowd.

What do you think? Did she deserve to be booed? It's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you aren't!

I personally don't care for that kind of singing. I find it pompous. But it's not intentionally disrespectful so I don't think it deserved to get booed. Roseanne Barr's performance was boo-able but I don't think this is.

I never heard of her until now, but I don't think she deserved to be booed. Like Xiphos said, she wasn't being deliberately disrespectful.

I voted yes because I dont think that it the song to take liberties with. Its our National Anthem, it should be sung just how it was written. To me, if you allow anyone to sing it how they feel then dont say anything when its sung in Spanish or another language. Show some respect to the nation and sing it correctly!

I voted yes. The song itself wasn't being booed, only the performance. The National Anthem needs to be sang correctly and the way it was meant to be sung each and every time...

There was a ripple of polite applause quickly drowned out by the boos.
The singing was a crime against humanity and she should be taken straight to the Hague and put in a cell next to Mr Karadic.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

While I think self expression is great, I don't think it should be done with the National Anthem. and what was she thinking to do it in Dallas!!!!!

I agree with singing it the way it is suppose to be sang crowd , but I have honestly heard much worst. I would not have booed, but I understand why those that booed chose to do so.

I find that I agree with the most of you. CTR held the opinion that the National Anthem, no matter how bad it is sung, should never be booed.
I feel that the National Anthem deserves more respect than to be sung in such a disgraceful manner. Its obvious that she didn't rehearse, it's a difficult song to sing for even the best singers! She tried to get creative without the talent to back it up! And it wasn't the SONG itself being booed, it was the singer. It's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you aren't!

Yes I did. It is the national anthem. That being said, whomever sings it should do so exactly how it is composed. On key, and no arpeggios or freedom of expression, please. The only "freedom of expression" that I would go for would be if the singer chose to go for the high note towards the end where the phrase "O'er the land of the free......" and only if the singer is positive that they can nail that high note. Like Capt America said, I would not boo myself but I duly understand why those that did chose to do so. I would however try to find out who hired this singer and ask them if they had heard this person sing this beforehand. If so, What Were You Thinking? Are you retarded or something?
If I wanted to listen to arpeggios, I would listen to Italian opera. At least they, for the most part, know how to do it right.

That was painful! Doesn't anyone ever audition these people?

Dallas could have gotten one of its own real singers, like LeAnn Rimes.
This is what I'm talkin' about - LeAnn kinda jazzed it up too, but she pulled it off!!!

People said the same thing about Hendrix when he did his version.
I'm going to take the opposite position. While I do agree that the song should be sung as intended, this is a country that guarantees the freedom of such expression.
I would not boo anyone singing any version of our anthem. I'll stand at attention, render the salute I am now allowed to render even in plain clothes, and keep my opinion about the nuances to myself.I'm your huckleberry...
