Biden might have more sense than we thought...

Joe Biden argued why Americans should not elect Barack Obama president of the United States but, instead, should pull the lever for John McCain:
"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."Thanks, Senator Biden. You made the case for John McCain beautifully.
"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. "And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him - we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."
"I've forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I'm not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it," the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said of Obama. "This guy has it. But he's gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, 'Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?' We're gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I'm asking you now, I'm asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you're going to have to reinforce us."
"There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, 'Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don't know about that decision'," Biden continued. "Because if you think the decision is sound when they're made, which I believe you will when they're made, they're not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they're popular, they're probably not sound.""The inherent vice of Capitalism is the unequal sharing of its blessings; the inherent vice of Socialism is the equal sharing of its miseries." -Winston Churchill

He's just being realistic and saying that not everyone is going to love everything they do. Was there ever a President who you agreed with 100% of the time?

He's talking to rabid Obama/Biden supporters at a fundraiser, so he may well be saying that sometimes they're going to compromise with conservatives and make their base angry. As they should. A President should be President for all Americans, even those who opposed him.

I read it as he knows the world will want to test America because Obama would be such a political experiment. It is no secret that our defenses are overwhelmingly republican. Military, police, whatever. A Democratic candidate that wants to go against the values our nation was built upon such as free enterprise, the right to bear arms, and the like would greatly upset the entire nation. I honestly think that if he is elected, we are in for at least four years of HELL

He's telegraphing that they are going to pursue a radical left lean, which will drive off all but the rabid left during the midterm congressional election. Then he asks folks to help keep people standing by him.
In a nutshell - we are going to do some stuff that will alienate the people who put us in office - everyone from the middle to the right.I'm your huckleberry...

So if Obama is elected that will precipitate an international crisis? That sounds terrific.

I really thought everybody was going to love us once he's in so there shouldn't be a test. I'm not worried he'll just turn everything over to the UN.

Be kind to him - He's had a brain operation, and the doctors probably removed more of it than they intended to.
Given the Mid-Eastern Eastern European mentalities, I think one of the "Evil Empire" countries will certainly see him as weak, and stir something up just to test him. It would be interesting if he were forced into following the same course that Bush took post-911.
After all, Bush was a touchy-feely guy too (remember "Compassionate Conservatism"?). 9/11 might have been his test, but I think he responded better than anyone would have thought possible.

He hasn't been briefed to any level near high enough. If he wins, he'll get the real dope the day after the election. That will be interesting - it always is - to watch his pre-election stances change with real intel.
