Teens Use Family's Home As Hangout After Reading MySpace Post
http://www.newsnet5.com/news/17772832/detail.html
NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Eight teens who attend Hoover High School in North Canton face felony and misdemeanor charges after they made an empty home their hangout.
Police said the teens learned about the empty home when a family's vacation plans were posted on a MySpace page.
Police said the teens made the Hume Street home their hangout for a week after a boy posted on his MySpace page that his family would be away on vacation.
"They knew the family would be gone and so they broke into the house and things went downhill from there," said Chief Michael Grimes, of the North Canton Police Department. "They ate the food that was there, used some of the alcohol that was there, borrowed the family car that was left there."
Police said the teens also stole money, video games and video equipment totaling more than $500 and damaged some property.
Grimes said the Taneyhill family's vacation nightmare sends an important message about MySpace and other similar sites.
"You just got to watch what you post on there whether you have MySpace page or not," said Grimes.
The teens were charged with burglary, theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving without a license.
They were released to their parents and face a hearing in juvenile court.

Or leave the door of the house unlocked with a sign posted "Come in and Rob me."

This happens more often than you might think. You've got to be careful who you tell about your vacation plans.

OK. So I'm wondering why these teens were released to their parents when their parents obviously didn't know they were squatting in a house that they had broken into for the entire week. Wow.
