WAUWATOSA – A suburban teacher is arrested and is facing possible drug charges and allegations of having underage parties with former students.

Roger Payne, 47, is a popular advanced algebra teacher at Wauwatosa East High School. He also tutors kids one on one at their homes.

It's an alleged relationship, which started with a former student that Payne tutored, that led to his arrest.

Police were called to Payne's Pewaukee condo when Payne reported $1,600 was stolen.

The person who reportedly stole the money is a 21-year-old man and the brother of a male student who Payne used to tutor. The suspect told police he actually stole marijuana from Payne’s home, not money.

Payne later admitted it was drugs that were stolen.

That 21-year-old man also told police Payne made sexual advances toward him, hosted parties and provided former students with drugs and alcohol.

Police are now investigating Payne’s conduct around other former students.

The Wauwatosa school district says he'll be suspended with pay indefinitely, which is standard procedure.

Parents are disappointed, and a lot of them are angry that even though Payne was suspended over a week ago, they first learned about it on TODAY’S TMJ4 Monday night.

Tuesday the district typed up a letter about exactly what happened, and mailed it home to every single parent.
