Millersburg fires police chief with 50 years of experience to avoid tax increase
HARRISBURG — The last day on the job for the police chief of a small central Pennsylvania town will be Wednesday after the borough council fired him to avoid a tax increase.
Mayor Brian Musa of Millersburg says he strongly disagrees with the decision, although some residents say the town of 2,700 is safe with or without Chief Kurt Braun.
The other three full-time officers will stay.
But Musa says borough council also cut funds for part-time police officers, leaving Millersburg more reliant on state troopers stationed farther away.
Braun says he is being penalized for doing a good job and keeping the town safe the last six-and-a-half years as chief in Millersburg.
Braun, who has been a police officer for 50 years, says he will begin looking for a new job.
