Pueblo officer shoots wife; apparently an accident
PUEBLO (AP) - A Pueblo police officer remains on leave following the apparent accidental shooting of his wife.
Steven Vaughn told investigators he had just finished cleaning his revolver Sunday when it accidentally fired. The bullet passed through a wall and into a bathroom, hitting his wife, Robin, in the lower torso.
Pueblo County sheriff's spokeswoman Laurie Kilpatrick said Robin Vaughn was treated at Parkview Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Kilpatrick says sheriff's deputies who investigated say the shooting appears to be accidental. Pueblo police Capt. Troy Davenport said Wednesday that the 35-year-old Vaughn remained on leave pending an internal investigation.

I've never cleaned a loaded weapon, it must be something new that " they're " teaching .

All joking aside I emphatically agree it's negligence.

We were taught in the Academy...many years ago... to clean the weapon in a room with the ammo in another room. Way too many people want to dry fire after they clean a weapon, then load it, then "dry fire" one more time.
Keep the ammo separate from the weapon when cleaning. The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government.

My question is how can you properly clean a REVOLVER and then have a negligent discharge?? I don't understand how it happens with a semi-auto, but a revolver has to be basically impossible unless he didnt open it to clean it, or didnt clean the cylinder at all.

Normally, "cleaning" discharges occur after re-loading the weapon intentionally.
Hence, negligent.I'm your huckleberry...
