Last seen alone, signs of struggle found in office
The search continued Sunday evening for a veteran Decatur police officer who was last seen working late Friday night and then disappeared, leaving signs of a struggle in his office.
Decatur Police Sgt. Faron Eugene White, who supervises the department's Organized Crime Unit, did not return home from work and was reported missing by his family early Saturday morning, according to a department news release.
White, 48, was last seen working alone around 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Decatur Police Department's Training Center. The department said it is working with numerous law enforcement agencies to locate the officer.
Police said there was evidence suggesting a struggle took place between White and another person in his office.
The department's Web site lists the Organized Crime Unit's duties as "investigating organized criminal conspiracies involving illegal drug, gambling, prostitution, money laundering and associated type crimes. The unit also runs undercover operations to combat sales of alcohol to minors and murder-for-hire. The unit works closely with state and federally sponsored task forces."
White was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt over a tan long-sleeve shirt. He is listed at 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
The Decatur Police Department has set up a tip line, 256-341-4717, for anyone with information about the case.

Damn, as if law enforcement didn't have enough problems! Taking money, scaring the wits out of his family, making the people that care for you get out on the river looking for you...this guy has got a LOT of explaining to do!

Huntsville TimesPolice Sgt. Farron Eugene White
The head of the Decatur Police Department's Organized Crime Unit was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Las Vegas early this morning and charged with first-degree theft in connection with money taken from the police department. The marshal's Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, or F.I.S.T., arrested him at a Hampton Inn 11:15 PST, or 1:15 a.m. CST.
Sgt. Faron White had been reported missing by his family on Saturday after he didn't show up after working Friday night at his office. Police found evidence of a struggle but investigators determined he had staged the scene, according to a Decatur Police Department press release.
A woman, Sarah Elizabeth Richardson, was also arrested at her home in Alabama and charged with hindering prosecution in connection with helping White, according to the police statement.
White's disappearance had triggered a search around the city and the Tennessee River.
The Huntsville Times reports this morning that Decatur police say White stole more than $2,500 from the department and then staged a struggle at his office before fleeing to Nevada.
The American Legion honored White as Decatur Police Officer of the Year in 2007, crediting the unit with seizing more than $100,000 in cash, weapons and property from drug dealers, according to a report by The Associated Press

WTF.
He threw away his career and scared family and friends to death over $ 2,500. There has got to be more to the story.

Weird, oh well, for people there to sort out. I sure hope the story doesn't get attention now - if it does, I'll comment on each story I see and ask "Why is it news now that he's been found if it wasn't when he went missing?"
