Bumbling Thieves Call 911 on Themselves
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Three men suspected of stealing tires from cars were their own worst enemy this morning when one suspect accidentally dialed 911 on his cell phone.
When Orange County Public Safety Dispatcher Milo Moore answered the 911 call, he heard voices and what sounded like the subjects stripping tires from a vehicle.
LISTEN: 911 call
Excerpt from 911 tape:
911 Dispatcher: Middletown 911 here...I got some guys on the phone...(inaudible) it's a cell phone but it sounds like they are ripping a car off. Dialed in their pocket by accident. They are taking the tires off a car.
Middletown Police: It sounds like somebody might be ripping off a car...they don't know where, they don't know where...they are taking the tires off.
Dispatcher: It's coming up somewhere in the area of Midland Avenue...ok they just hung up
Police: Thanks a lot
Dispatcher: Yeah but I heard them say get the tires and I'll get the front tires...
Police: ok
Dispatcher: alright?
Police: alight...if they call back thanks
According to Middletown Police, Moore utilized cellular phone pinpointing technology that Orange County had obtained for the Communications Center was able to trace the call to the area of Midland Ave Extension.
Officers were dispatched to the area and upon approach, observed two subjects inside of a vehicle which was parked in a repair yard on Midland Ave Extension.
Pryce and Corley were charged with Petty Larceny, Obstructing Government Administration in the second degree and Criminal Trespass in the third degree. Jenkins was charged with Criminal Possession Stolen Property 5th.

Thats pretty good. My experience with calls from cell phones is that its hard to figure out exactly where the call came from. So good job to the cops for finding these idiots.
