Woman faces prison after shooting at, biting cop
Woman faces prison after shooting at, biting cop
By KORIE WILKINS • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER
As she interrupted the judge, prosecutor and a detective, a West Bloomfield woman this afternoon was charged with shooting at an officer and then biting him on the arm.
Lashawn Hicks, 35, is facing life in prison after she was charged before 48th District Judge Diane D’Agostini with assault with intent to kill, felony firearms and resisting a police officer causing injury. Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor Kenneth Frazee and West Bloomfield Det. Matt Began said Hicks fired three shots at Officer Bradley Lackie at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday after he was called to her home on Littletell Avenue.
A motive for the shooting has not been revealed by authorities. Frazee said in court that Hicks does not have a criminal record, although she uses marijuana daily and has previously attempted suicide.
Lackie was not struck by the bullets.
As Began spoke, Hicks muttered and shook her head, saying “That’s not true.”
When asked by D’Agostini if she understood the charges, Hicks said no. She also refused to stand to be arraigned and requested a court-appointed attorney.
“I don’t understand any of this,” she said. “I never committed a crime before.”
Hicks, whom D’Agostini said is unemployed, will be held in the Oakland County Jail on a $1.5 million bond. She’ll be back in court Monday for a pre-exam hearing. She will also be required to submit to blood testing to see if she has any communicable diseases, as the bite to Lackie broke the skin.
“This is an extremely serious case,” Frazee said. “She had total disregard for the law enforcement officer and the public in that neighborhood.”

If we just legalized marijuana this would not have happed. Unless this cop has camera footage I think that the officer probably provoked Ms. Hicks because we can all agree that mary jane doesn't cause this type of behavior.

Sounds like she has mental health issues, in addition to anger issues, and a drug abuse issue.
Rather than put her in prison, maybe we should give her hugs and tell her that she's special.

I sent some rep to Five-O.http://www.odmp.org/officer/16551-de...l-eron-shannon
Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
