Mom convicted of using cattle prod on daughter
A Gypsum woman has been convicted of repeatedly using a cattle prod to discipline her 15-year-old daughter.
The Salina Journal is reporting that Saline County jurors deliberated for nearly two hours today before finding 53-year-old Connie Thompson-Dupes guilty of one count of child abuse.
The investigation of Thompson-Dupes started after police found her daughter while searching for two runaways. The girl had not been reported missing.
The teen told authorities her mother used a cattle prod, an electric shocking device used to move cattle, to punish her numerous times in 2007.
Sentencing has been scheduled for April 8. District Judge Jerome Hellmer could sentence her to probation or she could receive a prison sentence of 31 to 136 months.

So much for that brilliant disciplinary idea.

Good grief! I'm quite sure that is not what was meant by "spare the rod and spoil the child." Unbelievable. She'll probably get probation.

If your kid has so little respect for you that you have to resort to corporal punishment of any kind at 15, you're done a lousy job of parenting so far.
I truly believe, both from my experience with my daugters and stepsons and dealing with errant kids on the job that you're won or lost your kid by age seven. My youngest stepson was taller, heavier and in better shape than I was when he was a junior in high school. Loved the kid, but at that age he was a pain in the ass. Questioned everything, pushed the limits on a daily basis.... But if I told him he was grounded, he was grounded although there wasn't much of a way I could enforce it short of deadly force.
But he complied because he respected me. That didn't mean he didn't piss and moan a little each time, but he did it.
I have no sympathy for this mother. When I used to be somebody (I'm center top)
