Firefighter charged / Meth
Our Capitol has been in a mess for quite sometime with the political and City Services Leadership. A federal jury has been deliberating for the last 3 days because the Mayor was indicted for allegedly getting drunk and taking some teens to a crack house and then destroying it using sledge hammers with the teens help. Nothing much surprises me about what goes on down there but this did. Even in a totally screwed up situation, how can a FF get CONVICTED of possession and sale of meth/cocaine and keep his job?

Jackson firefighter faces drug charge

A Jackson firefighter convicted nearly 10 years ago of felony drug possession is in jail again on drug charges.
Aaron Blevins, 34, was arrested Monday and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Blevins, of Terry, has been a firefighter since July 1999.
He was convicted in November 1999 on possession of methamphetamine and cocaine and sale of cocaine. At the time, city policy left it up to the fire chief whether to retain a firefighter convicted of a felony.
Fire Chief Vernon Hughes did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
City policy is to place employees charged with crimes on paid administrative leave until an investigation is complete, according to city spokeswoman Goldia Revies.
After an investigation, the city will determine what action to take, she said.
She would not comment specifically on Blevins’ situation, saying it is a personnel matter.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

In Washington State, you lose your job and also lose your pension if you are convicted of a felony.

If that was a Police Officer they would be crucifying him in the media and the public. Not just possession but sale also??? Come on, where is the integrity and morals for that profession??

That's the thing, there are no inherent morals in firefighting other than saving property and lives. There is not moral obligation to abide by the law at all. Now fire depts. can have rules about how to handle firefighters that commit crimes, but the base mission of firefighters has nothing to do with the laws. So it's no surprise that guys who can't get onto police depts. because of criminal background end up getting onto fire depts.
CHIRP! CHIRP!
