Dem opposes new gun laws
WASHINGTON -- Alaska Sen. Mark Begich has told the Obama administration he will oppose any gun restrictions officials may be considering.
In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, Begich, a Democrat, said the Justice Department should enforce existing laws rather than propose additional laws he said could infringe on Second Amendment rights.
Begich said the ability to legally own firearms and use them for hunting and other activities is part of the fabric of life in Alaska.
Begich's letter follows a similar message from two other Western Democratic senators: Max Baucus and Jon Tester of Montana. The letters were prompted by Holder's recent comment that reinstating a ban on the sale of assault weapons could help reduce bloodshed in Mexico, where 6,000 people were killed last year in drug-related violence.

Demonize the gun with "assault weapon" brand and then sell the ban as helping us. Irregardless of the Constitution. The answer is not more bans that only work on law abiding citizens but to F'in hammer gateway criminals.

I notice that they don't want to ban "assault weapons" for the children or because of all the crime committed with assault weapons. Now we have to protect Mexico.

I hate hearing the "hunting" argument. Ef that. I want a rifle to shoot Blue Helmets if they try to kick in my door!

The thing that annoys me the most is them saying that an "assault weapon" ban will stop crime. Hello, idiots!!! They're CRIMINALS. They don't care whether or not you ban them. It just means that someone else, another criminal, will make more money doing things illegally than they did before doing the same thing...illegally.

When you tally up the number of gun related crimes in this country, the percentage of those involving "assault" weapons are negligible. The average crook still prefers the revolver, they'll always shoot, don't have to be taken much care of and don't leave casings behind.

In all fairness he didn't say only hunting. And in all reality, this is alaska. I don't think you could find a single liberal in office that would support any gun laws. the only liberals that do are the ones with the Anchorage Daily News, which incidently is owned by some california liberals. Go figure.

The thing that drives me crazy with the anti-gun nuts is that they never factor in how many times per year that legal guns prevent or stop crimes, often without the gun owner firing a shot.
The NRA estimates a million crimes a year are stopped and several thousand people are saved from death or serious bodily injury because a good guy on the scene had a gun. That estimate sounds high to me - but in any case, I think the number saved by guns FAR outweighs the number killed by guns in crimes or accidents.
I'm glad to see at least one Democrat agree with me, because McCain and several other so-called Republicans will probably vote for the ban.

I know this is crazy talk but how many problems could be avoided with more guns rather than less. Airplanes, Schools, Banks et al.

I'm just shocked that there are Democrat senators voted into office in Alaska and Montana. Never woud have guessed that.

Excellent! See, everyone...not all democrats are anti-gun! Some (yours truly) are lifetime NRA members and favor enforcing existing gun laws. If you make this or that type of guns illegal, then the law abiding citizens will follow those laws...but the turd-ass criminal? Well, he doesn't care about laws anyway, so he'll continue to ignore the new laws (the same way he is ignoring the old ones) and do whatever the hell he wants to do. It's always struck me that they think saying this or that gun is now illegal...it's like they're saying "Hey! Turd! You're using an illegal weapon to commit those felonies! Go read up on gun laws, then use a legal gun to rape/rob/murder/pillage!"
Also, I like bewbies however I can get 'em...seatbelt, purse or otherwise!

Thanks, Wolven. And yes, I wasn't aware the term "seatbelt bewbie" existed either.
