    100mph chase criminal inherits 50k

The link contains footage from a police helicopter and some rather chaotic comms of the chase that lead to his latest arrest.

A NOTORIOUS city criminal revealed he had inherited 50,000 as he was sentenced for a 100mph police chase.

Declan Madigan, 23, nearly ran a man down as he was tracked by the police helicopter in Hucknall.

The inheritance came to light during a discussion about legal aid.

Judge Michael Stokes asked: "When did he inherit a substantial sum of money?"
Adrian Reynolds, defending, spoke to Madigan and said it was six months ago.

Judge Stokes asked if Madigan had filled in a form for legal aid and Mr Reynolds said he had not got a copy.

The judge said: "I don't see why the public should pay for his representation if he is a wealthy man. I'm required by law to consider it. If he can afford for his own representation, I will adjust that aspect until he has filled the form in."

Part of the video showing the police chase

Nottingham Crown Court heard the police chase started in Lime Tree Road when Madigan sped away from a community support officer in a Hyundai car in March at 9.15pm.

He turned into Broomhill Road and switched the lights off. He accelerated to 60mph in Park Drive, then 80mph in Portland Road and drove the wrong side of a bollard in Bulwell Road.

In Nottingham Road he hit 100mph. At the junction of the A611, Madigan, of Kneeton Vale, Sherwood, overtook a slow-moving vehicle at 80mph.

Video footage from the helicopter showed a man throwing himself against a wall out of the path of the car.

Madigan, who has 135 offences on his record, abandoned the vehicle in a cul-de-sac and climbed over garden fences before hiding in a shed.

But he was tracked by the thermal-imaging camera on the police helicopter.

Jon Fountain, prosecuting, said Madigan was convicted of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance, and possession of cannabis at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

He was already on licence after being released from a five-year sentence for affray and possession of a prohibited weapon and has been recalled to prison.

His previous convictions include 19 for driving while disqualified and eight for dangerous driving and aggravated-vehicle taking.

He made history at 14 when he became the youngest person in Britain to be served with an asbo.

Judge Stokes banned Madigan from driving for 18 months and sent him to prison for 16 months.

"You don't need me to tell you this was the most appalling piece of driving," he said.
"You put members of the public at serious risk of injury or worse by the way you were driving at night with no lights on."

Adrian Reynolds, defending Madigan, said: "He is showing signs of trying to get his life back on track."

How often have we heard this before, especially with those with habitual offenses? Someone is hallucinating, here.
