Dearborn College Shooting.
2 Dead In College Murder-Suicide
Lockdown On School Lifted
POSTED: Friday, April 10, 2009
UPDATED: 5:18 pm EDT April 10, 2009
DEARBORN, Mich. -- Two people were killed at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn Friday afternoon in what police are calling a murder-suicide.
Deputy Police Chief Gregg Brighton said Henry Ford Community College was locked down in the early afternoon, but the campus has since been secured and the lockdown was lifted.
Police said they got a call around 12:30 p.m. on a report of an assault. En route, they got another report of shots being fired at the college's fine arts center.
When police arrived both victims, a 20-year-old female theatre student and a 28-year-old male student were dead.
The 28-year-old gunman used a shotgun to shoot the woman and himself. Local 4 has learned the two students were in a relationship, and had been in a theater class together.
Crime scene investigators said the shooting was in room F111. Police said the 20-year-old was rehearsing a scene in the empty room when the shooter barged in.
A witness posted a series of videos on YouTube moments after the shooting.

The school will remain closed for the remainder of the day.
School representative Marjorie Swan said in a news conference Friday that the school employed the emergency notification system and immediately alerted students and staff by cell phone and e-mail.
"One of my students had a cell phone and he said, 'It's just came across my cell phone -- there's police in the building.' I said, 'Well then, were in good shape, the police are in the building," said a 10-year teacher at the school.
Swan thanked the Dearborn police and the Michigan State Police for their quick response.
Counseling will be offered to students and employees. Visit the school's Web site for more information.
"Our hearts go out to the family of the woman who lost her life today," said Swan.
"If Henry Ford is not safe anymore, I just don't know where to go anymore for education. I think it's just crazy," said Hanadi Charara.
