Mayor gets speeding warning, demands ticket
WARREN, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan mayor says a warning wasn't enough after he was stopped for speeding. So he asked for a ticket instead — and got it.
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts was pulled over Monday on the way to City Hall for going 45 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer told him to watch it next time.
Fouts says he was uncomfortable the entire day with just a warning, thinking it might be construed as favoritism. So he called the deputy police commissioner and demanded the ticket.
Police delivered it to Fouts' office and Fouts paid the $100 fine.
Fouts told The Detroit News that he "had to set an example."

I don't understand even looking at a car 5 over, but ok.
The public officials have to risk being perceived as receiving favoritism. Our Darin pulled over one of his judges once and when he realized it wanted to warn him. He insisted on the ticket. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

I'm known for being pretty aggressive with speeders, but yeah, even I won't stop someone for five over. To each his own though.
The sheriff in my county was cited a few years ago after an on duty accident that was his fault. The responding officer (different department) did not cite him, and he insisted on one.No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

I don't beleive an elected official insisting on a citation here has ever happened. Doubtful it ever will. Their constituents would think they were crazy and never vote for them again. Hell if they can't get out of their own ticket how could they fix anyone elses. Geez.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
