Police Records Clerks Fired For Searching For A Date
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Two records clerks at the Fort Myers Police Department were fired after reportedly misusing a classified search database to look up people one woman was considering dating.
Carol Bass and Helen Lehman were fired March 21. According an investigation, a supervisor learned Bass was misusing software that lets employees look up a person's driver and vehicle information.
Other clerks reported that Bass had joined a telephone dating service and that she would lookup the personal information and photographs of people who responded to her messages.
Lehman told an investigator she looked up records for Bass.
"I haven't dated for 20 years," Bass told an investigator. "I thought well, this might be a way to get information before I make a move."

I have guys who voluntarily give me their information and tell me to "run them"...I tell them I date just like regular girls...no criminal histories or checks run..I do tell them, however, that I am armed most of the time.

We had a couple clerks that did that in the Dept I worked for and they were fired immediately and they used NCIC.

I dont know about the whole male badge bunny thing...havent really seen it. Except the 80 year old guys that joke and asked me to take them to jail. I tell them they dont really want that ride..its not fun.
