Arizona Drunk Drivers Face Arrest at Fast Food Joints
TUCSON, Ariz. — Drunken Arizona drivers with the late-night munchies may soon be getting more than chicken strips at drive-through windows.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department has a new campaign targeting drunken driving. Operation Would U Like Fries, or Operation WULF, will put undercover deputies inside 24-hour fast-food restaurants to spot impaired drivers placing their orders.
Sgt. Doug Hanna, a DUI unit supervisor, says if deputies notice someone with classic symptoms of impairment — slurred speech, red or watery eyes or beer breath — they will have a uniformed deputy stationed outside pull the driver over.
Hanna says money for the intermittent program is coming from a $128,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

If they arrest for DUIs with Marijuana they could probably get alot of people with the munchies

We get a lot of DUI's just from the actual drive-thru clerks calling us about drunk drive-thru customers. They even sometimes try to stall the order to give us enough time to get there to pull them over.

We would be run off before we got started. Drunk driving is a privilege here in Louisiana as long as you don't kill a high profile person or relative. The restaurants would complain the police were driving away their business.

I can't help but wonder how many DUI's have ran into the side of the building trying to negotiate the drive-thru lane.

I think they should stake out the bars and liquor stores instead - Since they're a regulated business, I don't think they can refuse inspections - In fact, I think Irving was arresting people for LITERALLY being "Drunk in a bar", as Ron White says, and slapping the servers with big fines.
Once the drunks have their hands on the keys inside the car, that's effective control of a vehicle in a public place - Plenty for a DWI here. They don't even need to start the car or drive off the parking lot.
I don't know why the police don't take advantage of all that, but they don't, or at least not enough.
