DEVELOPING: Television pitchman Billy Mays — who built his fame by appearing on commercials and infomercials promoting household products and gadgets — died Sunday, FOX News confirms.

Mays was found unresponsive by his wife inside his Tampa, Fla., home at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to May's residence and foul play is not suspected. Authorities said an autopsy should be complete by Monday afternoon.

Mays, 50, was on board a US Airways flight that blew out its front tires as it landed at a Tampa airport on Saturday, MyFOXTampa.com reported.

US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that none of the 138 passengers and five crew members were injured in the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises, according to the station.

Authorities have not said whether Mays' death was related to the incident.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times," Mays wife, Deborah, said in a statement on Sunday.

His new TV show, "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel was actually pretty good.

Apparently that business is a nearly-constant train wreck interrupted by a few famous sucesses like Orange Glo, Oxy-Clean and the Awsome Auger, which most people buy because of the "free" rechargable drill. I'm sure it's a cheap Chinese imitation of the good ones, like you see Harbor Frieght selling for almost nothing, but somehow his irritating voice made people dial the phone by the millions..

Sucks to hear he died, but I never liked that guy for some reason. Did he really have to yell everything he said?!

The old carnival barker technique... I've heard it explained like this a long time ago...

It may be irritating, but it gets them noticed and remembered. Anything remembered doesn't seem as bad next time if it didn't try to kill or cheat you, and just the act of remembering it builds trust and familiarity. It makes the fantastic claims seem plausible. The barker's enthusiasm for the product s then contagious, but if the enthusiasm is toned down, then you're not as enthused by the product either.

Once people trust something see some value in it, and are enthused by t, they start imagining uses for it.

Then after many exposures over time with no change in the message, a certain percentage of those people will pick up the phone and order it - even if they were hostile toward it at first, and didn't think they would ever have a use for it. If only 1% of the people who've heard it respond, that's a million units sold. Who cares if the other 99% are pissed off by it, because they weren't going to order anything anyway.

Kinda like Ender begging for dates

Then the company licenses OxyClean to some other company who puts their name on it or sells it as a store brand, and the other 99% who were pissed off buy it, just so they can put the screws to Billy Mayes by supporting the "competition".

Holy shit! That does suck. Just means I'll have to continue to watch all of the dubs of him on YouTube. Like this one!
