Driver says Caltrans worker too slow to jump to safety

An Oregon woman who struck a Mendocino County Caltrans worker with her van said the man could have jumped out of her way more quickly, the California Highway Patrol reported Wednesday.
Catherine Stotts, 62, of Eugene, was issued a citation at the scene for reckless driving causing injury, the CHP said.
Kenneth Sears of Willits sustained major injuries when hit in the construction zone on Highway 20 west of Willits Tuesday afternoon. He was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits for treatment, the CHP said.
Stotts was driving a 1992 Ford van westbound at 2:04 p.m. when her vehicle hit Sears, the CHP said.
She was driving in the closed construction lane and passing other westbound vehicles when she rounded a curve and saw Sears, who was working on foot in the closed lane, the CHP said.
Stotts braked and Sears tried to jump over a guardrail but the van struck both the railing and Sears, the CHP said.
Stotts told officers she was driving in the construction lane because she was not used to driving on new asphalt and that she thought Sears could have jumped faster, the CHP said.'Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a
