Senate passes measure to allow gun transport on Amtrak
Amtrak would lose its federal subsidies if it doesn't put a system in place by early next year to check and track firearms so that passengers can legally put the weapons in their checked baggage, the Senate voted Wednesday.
One senator says the measure "is going to put a severe burden" on Amtrak.
The measure, an amendment to the transportation and housing appropriations bill, passed 68-30.
The House version of the bill, passed in July, does not include the provision, so further steps would be needed for it to reach President Obama's desk.
Amtrak's current policy prohibits passengers from carrying "any type of gun, firearm, ammunition, explosives or weapon" in carry-on or checked baggage.

Severe burden my ass.
Taxpayer funded transportation can damn well figure out a way to allow passengers to transport their guns.I'm your huckleberry...

For the amount of money the taxpayers give them, they should find a way for licensed passengers to carry their firearms concealed as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't been on a train since kindergarden. I would love to take one all the way to Alaska. I would feel better the whole way with my trusty Glock 27 either on my hip or my ankle.

Sorry Five-O. No trains to Alaska yet. I think the farthest north you could get would be Prince Rupert, BC. You could catch the ferry to Seward, AK and hop on the Alaska Railroad there. But the Canadians don't take to kindly to Americans bringing handguns into Canada, LEO or not. The AKRR doesn't screen passengers prior to boarding.
