This actually considered a small bust by our standards but it did make the paper, so here goes.

Mendocino County deputies and U.S. Forest Service officers were on their way to eradicate marijuana when they encountered a Chevy pickup driving down Hamm’s Pass Road, northeast of Covelo, according to a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office report.

When the driver of the pickup spotted the law enforcement vehicles, he accelerated and fled, said Capt. Kurt Smallcomb. The pickup was found abandoned a short distance away. The bed and interior of the pickup were filled with garbage bags containing 256 pounds of packaged bud marijuana in oven roasting bags, Smallcomb said.

Two men were apprehended running down a hill, he said.

Soon afterward, a second vehicle approached from the same direction as the first, he said.

The driver stopped the Chevy Tahoe and ran down the hill, Smallcomb said. He was later found hiding in tall grass. The Tahoe contained 70 pounds of dried marijuana bud, Smallcomb said.

Arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale were Jorge Armando Aguilar, 24, Reynaldo Zaragosa-Rio, 26, and Cesar Alonso Felix-Zazueta, 32, all of Los Angeles.

The three, identified as Mexican nationals, had been recruited to cultivate and trim marijuana in Mendocino County, Smallcomb said.
