Woman arrested for letting 13-year-old daughter ride inside cardboard box tied to top of a van with a clothes hangerA Boaz woman was arrested Saturday after she had her 13-year-old daughter riding inside a cardboard box tied to the top of a van with a clothes hanger, Albertville Police Sgt. Jamie Smith said.
Albertville police officers responded after someone called police about 11 a.m. Saturday to report a child was inside the box on top of the woman’s minivan, Smith said. Officers stopped Knott, driver of the van, on U.S. Highway 431 near Tyson’s Chicken. When the woman was asked why the child was inside the box, she told officers the box was too big to go inside the van and the child could hold it down.

Ala. mom gets jail; let teen ride in box atop van
ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Albertville woman pleaded guilty and will spend five days in jail after letting her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van.
The judge ordered Jackie Knott to 90 days jail time, of which she will serve only five days.
WAFF reports Tuesday that the 37-year-old Knott admitted endangering the welfare of a child. The sentence began immediately and she also has to complete 40 hours of community service, attend a parenting class and driving school followed by two years probation.
Albertville police arrested Knott last month after concerned drivers called police when they saw the 13-year-old in the box.
Knott reportedly told police the box wouldn't fit inside the van so her daughter was sitting inside to weigh it down on the roof. The teen was not hurt.
