Inmates save jail deputy from fellow inmates' attack
Full story and video here: Inmates come to guard's aid in jail attack - CNN.comMoon, 64, was no match for Douglas Burden, 24, in custody on various drug charges. With Moon still in his chair, Burden put him in a choke hold and pulled tight.
And then, surveillance video of the Monday attack showed, other inmates jumped into the fray.
But the other inmates joined the fight on the guard's side, pulling Burden away from Moon and punching him in the head. One inmate grabbed Moon's radio and called for back-up. The inmates held Burden down until other guards arrived as one of them extended a hand to help Moon up, according to the video.

I hope the ones who helped are rewarded in some way.
This is a good example of why it's important to be respectful to everyone, you never know when the tables will turn. Of course that's contingent upon their behavior, but why be an ass just because you can be?That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

It's not unheard of. The guards who are known to be fair and just in their dealings with the inmates, at least in some facilities, sometimes get assistance at critical times from unexpected sources. Something similar happened with both my dad and brother, although the cases weren't this extreme.

I'm not surprised by it.
We had a big fight when I worked in the jail and ordered the other inmates to lock down.
Later on several of them came to me and said they didn't want to get on their bunks because they wanted to help us.

I had my butt saved by inmates on a couple of occasions. I don't know whether it was to help me, or keep the inmates from getting in more trouble, but I appreciated the help.
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

That should look good in their parole jackets or early release eligibility, depending on what they're in for.

One of the guys who helped my dad out was a lifer with no chance of parole. He just happened to respect my dad, and had enough clout inside that he ordered the others to respect him, too. When my dad passed away, the inmates took up a collection for my family. I can't remember the exact total, but it was close to $50 and this was in 1984. A lot of those guys donated all the money they were allotted for an entire week in order to show respect for my father.
Just saying, not all do it to be self-serving.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

I know that the inmates if treated with respect will go the extra mile for an officer because I've been in the situation also. I always treated them with respect and when I left they were sincerely sorry to see me leave. I had many come and tell me "Ms Mack your one of the good ones, please don't leave." I always made it a point to not disrespect someone in front of all the other inmates and they appreciated it.
My dad, I miss him every day.

That's good to hear.
Frankly, I think this story serves a good purpose, not only for C/O's, but us on the streets as well.
As much as we like to talk trash with each other, and talk smack while the adrenaline is cranked up, this is a good reminder that there really are alot of decent people who just make poor decisions and get locked up.
I'm a "young" officer, but too many other young guys treat every person who is in cuffs or has the potential to be, like garbage. Growing up around LE I've found I have a good mix of old school mentality with new and better tactics. You'd be amazed at the results you can get if you show people a little respect if the situation allows. If the guy's being cooperative and decent, what's wrong with letting him have that one cigarette before you leave? (I do this if they're being cool, and keep them cuffed) Passing on a word to his mom, wife, babymomma? Not cuffing them in front of the kids, etc. You have to let the situation be your guide.
I can tell you from experience, it is remembered and pays off in the long run. It may not be in a physical attack situation. I could be something so simple as needing info."Like" us on facebook! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Offic...93147194083228

Pudge, I agree with you 100%! I have seen C/O's, Deputy's, and Officers treat arrestee's and inmates as if they are garbage. I never cared for their attitudes, they made us all look bad. Something to remember always, there but for the grace of God go I. I have been in the position of making wrong choices in the past and didn't get caught. They did, I doubt there is anyone out there who can say they never made a wrong choice, just some people weren't lucky, they got caught. It's something worth remembering.
My dad, I miss him every day.
