Body of trapped spelunker won't be removed from cave
SPANISH FORK, Utah – A Utah cave's narrow crevice that trapped and eventually killed a medical student will become his final resting place, and the dangerous cavern will be permanently sealed.
State and county officials said Friday that any effort to recover the body of 26-year-old John Jones from the cramped passage would be too dangerous.

May he rest in peace. We feel like it would be John's will to protect the safety of future cavers," his younger brother, Josh, said at a news conference Friday. Hodgson said "we've suffered a tragedy in this cave that we hope to prevent from happening again."
The family will be allowed to place a memorial marker at the cave.

I'm pretty claustrophobic. This story has just about given me nightmares. I cannot imagine being stuck in that small space, living as long as he did, and dying there.

I guess this John thought he was Big Bad John
No sense in endangering anymore lives, especially if he is not alive. Just put a marble stand in front of it.

Maybe its my sick, twisted night shift humor but I just had an image of someone just hooking a winch cable around his ankles and pulling him out

I believe I would have asked for a winch, a LONG cable, and a .44 mag. Hook the cable around my ankles, start pulling, and if it pulls me apart shoot me in the head.

One of the things that's so awful about it (to me, anyway) is that they'd been successful in pulling him out slightly and the apparatus broke, sending him back in.
