Millionaire who fought off a knife-wielding burglar is jailed (while the intruder is let off) Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1235782/Millionaire-Munir-Hussain-fought-knife-wieldin

    Unbelievable.

A millionaire businessman who fought back against a knife-wielding burglar was jailed for two-and-a-half years yesterday. But his attacker has been spared prison.
Munir Hussain, 53, and his family were tied up and told to lie on the floor by career criminal Waled Salem, who burst into his home with two other masked men.
Mr Hussain escaped and attacked Salem with a metal pole and a cricket bat. But yesterday it was the businessman who was starting a prison sentence for his 'very violent revenge'.

The United Kingdom's Justice System is in as much shambles as ours.
    SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
-Ex-Sheriff Martin Howe to Will Kane in "High Noon"

Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

There must be more to this than first meets the eye. I hope.
Either he was very badly defended, unlikely(the best barristers work for the defence not prosecution)
The jury were 12 morons (entirely possible)

There is in law a right to self defence using reasonable force, a cricket bat against a knife seems entirley reasonable! If it was as simple as the article made out this would not have got to court at all, well it shouldn't, but then I'm a very small cog in the criminal justice system. Just as we aren't allowed to beat the sh1t out of a prisoner once detained, neither are you allowed to do it to a burglar if he is no longer a threat. As with our job how you articulate your actions so that it is clear you acted correctly is key.

Most westernised/liberal societies are suffering similar incidents where the offenders rights seem to outweigh the victims. It is something most police officers experience on a daily basis and is possibly the most frustrating part of the job.
the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.
