Wow, even cops' kids don't get it........ If you see a burglar in your house, and you have a phone....YOU CALL THE POLICE, not your dad (or insert other family member or friend here). Even if dad is a cop, you still call 911 first. I can't tell you how many real emergency calls I have responded to where we could have made a difference in the outcome or caught the bad guy if the victim had only called the police instead of calling a relative or friend.

But also, that bad guy is very lucky he is still alive.

Indiana, got to disagree on this one. Dad is right upstairs, that is a two second phone call. 911 has a minimum delay of 60 seconds to time of dispatch, then you have to get the officer there. Ideal circumstances, police are there in two or three minutes. Seems fast unless you are the kid at the bottom of the stairs. Call dad, get him moving, ping 911 and even if you can't talk at that point, 911 is going to get the world rolling.

I guess I envisioned it as a first and second floor thing. I think my initial thought would be that if I'm downstairs (first floor) and I know my dad is sleeping upstairs on the second floor and there's a stranger in the house that has just come from the second floor, I'd be concerned that something had happened to my dad so I'd call 911 first. At least, I think I would.

I did not see it like that, BC, but good point.

I'm not too sure the dog would stand aside and say "he's yours now"
