HUNTSVILLE — About 30 Garland police officers waited outside the Walls prison Thursday evening as the man condemned for gunning down a fellow Garland officer in 1997 was put to death in the first execution of 2010.
Kenneth Mosley, 51, was convicted of killing officer David Moore, whose widow witnessed the execution.
The punishment was postponed twice last year by technical issues and court appeals.
Moore, 32, was fatally shot about 1 p.m. on Feb. 15, 1997, while responding to a 911 call about the robbery of a Bank One on West Centerville Road. A bank employee had called 911 after recognizing Mosley in the line waiting for a teller as the man who robbed the bank more than a month earlier.
Other officers were outside the bank as Moore went in, approached Mosley and asked to speak to him. Mosley pulled out a 9 mm pistol and fired five times. One of four bullets to hit Moore struck over the top edge of his protective vest, killing him.
His lawyers argued at his trial that the shooting was accidental, saying the weapon went off five times as he was trying to surrender.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Well, that's one less.
He won't be harming anyone anymore.http://www.odmp.org/officer/16551-de...l-eron-shannon
Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.
