Off-Duty Chicago Officer Shots, Kills Man
CHICAGO -- Police said an off-duty police officer shot and killed a man on the South Side Wednesday.
It happened at about 7 p.m. at 77th Street and Hermitage Avenue.
The off-duty officer, who is a veteran of the 6th District, was sitting in his car when he noticed the man with a gun sticking out of his waistband, NBC5's Don Lemon reported.
Witnesses said the officer and the victim were arguing over a girlfriend, and that argument went too far.
"Everybody was outside, kids were playing and stuff," said witness Tiffany Scott. "Next thing you know, we hear some loud commotion. Everybody was being nosy looking over there. The next thing you know, that's when they got into the dispute. Then we heard the gunshots."
Witnesses said the officer's relationship with the girl was common knowledge in the neighborhood, Lemon reported. Police said they could not verify that the relationship existed.
"The officer came over and said, 'What are you doing talking to her?'" Scott said. "He was like, 'I'm talking to her, that's my girl.' That's when they got into a commotion."
Police said the officer told the man to stop and a struggle ensued after he refused. The struggle led to the shooting, police said.
"An offender with a gun who was told, 'Police! You're under arrest. Stop.' He physically resisted," said Chicago Police Department Spokesman Pat Camden. "He shot in defense of his life."
Authorities said they recovered a 9-millimeter gun from the victim.

By reading what is written, it doesn't sound too good!
The officer was "talking" to the same girl the other dude was "talking" to? Got to separtate business and pleasure. Even though the officer was off-duty, when I read it, red flags went up.
Anybody else see it that way?Be careful whose feet you step on today, they may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.
