Man who drove through Luke AFB gates faces murder charge

The 19-year-old Glendale man who drove a stolen car through the gates of Luke Air Force Base last week likely entered the base by mistake, police said Monday.
The driver, identified as Gabriel Aguilera, is being treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A security guard opened fire on the vehicle as it drove through the base, killing a 16-year-old male passenger and severely injuring Aguilera.
Aguilera has been charged with murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony flight and motor vehicle theft, said Officer Karen Gerardo, a spokeswoman for the Glendale Police Department. She said Aguilera is charged with murder because his passenger died during the course of a felony offense.

Hmm....I guess he found someone that would shoot at him.

Gerardo said the teenagers likely entered the military base by mistake as they fled from law enforcement. "They were probably just trying to get away," she said.

I wonder if he'll plan a better route next time.

213, have they replaced us at the gates at Luke?

If he got lit up the way I think he did, I bet it was Security Forces (not security guards.)

The gates have the private security at them now. The security forces show up at the gates from time to time. but for the most part it the security. They also been taken the part of patrol on the base to.

Wow, that doesn't seem right! Especially since there are enough enlisted to take on the job of an MP, why in the world would they hire outside?

Not sure at Luke, but I think alot of the bigger bases have gone to contract security for the gates.

They tried it at our base because it was going to be more cost effective (their words). However, they replaced one airman per shift with 2 guards and one supervisor per shift, plus a site manager. The gate guards were getting 21.50 an hour, supervisor was getting 25 an hour. Some reason or another, just didn't seem cost effective to me.
