Students taken protesting - Social Justice or Indocrtination?
While some may go on a field trip to the zoo or a museum, students from a Minneapolis charter school went to the state capitol to take part in a protest. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from Southside Family Charter School chanted, held signs, and demanded answers on welfare reform outside of Gov. Tim Pawlenty's office Tuesday.
School director Eliza Goodwin said, "It is something that is absolutely part of our curriculum."
Southside Family bases its curriculum around social justice issues and promotes demonstrations.

The term "social justice" is all I needed to see. This is bullshit. When I took government IN HIGH SCHOOL, I had a left leaning teacher. The difference is he made you work for campaigns. No particular campaign, you got to choose. We also had to go to council meeting, municipal court, and district court. His class was hard as hell, but one of the best I ever had. He would let you argue and debate any point as long as you could defend it in a logical and rational manner. The class was called U.S. Government/Street Law, but it was actually Critical Thinking. Taking kids in junior high to use as props and captive protesters for your own ends is total bullshit.

I was in high school in the late sixties and early seventies. If you wanted a better time to be involved in protests, you couldn't come up with a better era. Between the anti-war protests, the Bobby Seale trial and a few other subjects, there was a protest every day.
We covered the issues in school. We didn't get to go protest."When a crime is committed, liberals blame society. Conservatives blame the criminal." -Debra Saunders

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

From their website....
The Southside Family Charter School's social justice curriculum educates children and the larger community about the underlying social problems that foster racism, sexism, classism and homophobia. By addressing these issues at an early age, SFCS encourages children to see themselves as citizen activists who can change the world and helps children avoid internalizing the effects of discrimination by teaching a history of organized opposition to injustice.Alpha Phi Sigma Alum - Alpha Delta Chapter
