Our New Contract
City wins arbitration over police pay raise - 4/16/10 - Chicago News - abc7chicago.com
We have been working without a contract with the city since 06/2007 and this is what we get for it. When times were hard the Aldermen in this city voted themselves a 6% raise and when Chicago made its bid for the Olympics there was plenty of $$ laying around. First responders get 10% over five years, we got shafted

I don't know how anyone can be a cop in Chicago. The entire city does nothing but shit on your guys constantly. Nobody gives a crap about cops there. I'd love to see you all just quit and leave and see where that gets that shit hole city.
I read http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/ and I'm constantly amazed at what you have to put up with. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

I amazes me that there is always money for "social programs" and feel-good, Kumbya crap, but there isn't any for us. Personally, I haven't had a raise in 3 years and have to take 8 "furlough" days a year. Go figure.

I can understand wanting to get more for what we do, as we do deserve more, but can't we just be happy that we have a job doing what we love. Be happy that we are not walking the enemployment line.
I'm willing to bet that most sworn officer here wouldn't do my job for the amount I get paid to do it for.
I have always been told that I won't get wealthy doing this job, guess what, it's true.Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

I understand where you are coming from, but the facts, for me anyways, are that this job isn't my life: It pays for my life. I'm thankfull everyday for the life I've been allowed to have. I'm thankfull for my family. I'm thankfull for my job. I, along with everyone, deserves to be paid fairly, and not shoved on the back shelf. all too often, that's what's happening.
